About Us
The story of an inspiring mother-daughter duo, Jenny Hull who set out with simple intentions: to brighten the lives of hospitalized children. One look at that hospital room, and Jenny knew it needed better energy. She ran out to a local boutique, picked up a handful of decor items, and gave the room a quick makeover and an infusion of joy. She knew this same “brightening up” could help her daughter.
Once Upon a Room provides an invaluable service to children in the hospital while fighting serious, life threatening illnesses or acute trauma often resulting in permanent disabilities and months of medical treatment and extended outpatient care. Through different events and programs, we are able to bring joy to their hospital stay and beyond.
Josie and her sister, Teresa, were head conjoined twins who were separated at 1 years old at UCLA Medical Center. Josie has continued to be in and out of the hospital throughout her life. Jenny, her mom, and Josie noticed when she brought items from home to decorate her room her mood and tenacity was better causing her to heal faster.
Josie knew first hand what it was like to be in the hospital and wanted to share the joy she received from decorations with others. Josie and Teresa are the inspiration for Once Upon a Room.

Our Programs
Room Program
Based on the child’s likes and special needs, we customize a plan to decorate their hospital room with items they can take home with them as they continue their recovery. We create a very personal home-like environment from what was once a cold and stark space. It’s important to remember that while these children are in the hospital, for most, their fight is far from over. Everything the patient receives from Once Upon a Room is theirs to keep will go home with them.
Patient & Family Events
Events are planned to allow patients and families to have a moment of fun leaving behind their diagnosis, struggle and fight. Once Upon a Room provides experiences for all to enjoy.
